Mitsui & Co. Plastics Acquires International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS

We are pleased to announce that Mitsui & Co. Plastics Ltd. (“Mitsui & Co. Plastics”, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Katsunori Mori) acquired ISCC PLUS, an international certification system for sustainable products.

International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is the world’s first international sustainability carbon certification system for biomass and bioenergy. ISCC PLUS is a certification system for the supply chain management and security of products manufactured from biomass or renewable materials, etc. under the mass balance approach*1. Certification is applicable to products worldwide, including those manufactured outside the EU. With the acquisition of this certification, Mitsui & Co. Plastics can now handle products certified by ISCC PLUS.

From the viewpoint of global environmental conservation, we at Mitsui & Co. Plastics set environmental policies and goals, which we periodically evaluate and review. We also endeavor to prevent environmental destruction and pollution by actively handling raw materials and products with a low environmental impact. In addition, we have established environmental management systems and implement continuous improvements. While giving due consideration to global environmental conservation and safety in people’s everyday lives, by expanding the handling of ISCC-certified products, we strive to enhance our corporate activities to gain further trust from our stakeholders

*1: A mass balance approach is used for paper and other materials in various industries. The approach enables the management and calculation of products that contain sustainable materials, such as those derived from biomass materials, and unsustainable materials, such as those derived from petroleum. This method is utilized primarily to promote a shift to biomass carbon neutrality in supply chains with complex manufacturing processes. Note that “biomass” refers to renewable resources derived from plants, animals, and other sources, and can be used sustainably.
